Home and Family
Well, since you work at home, it may have occurred that everything that needs to get done STILL needs to get done. There is no escaping it! Especially since home is also your workplace. Unless you are born organized and all this comes as second nature to you, you will need help with the house and the children.
Tips on Working At Home With Children
If you are a parent, one of your top reasons tor choosing to work at home is probably your children. That is certainly my top reason! However, working at home with children around has its own set of challenges.
Many of the companies I have listed that hire homeworkers are teleservices companies, and, since you will be on the phone, you will have to have a quiet work environment. The teleservices companies will terminate your contract for background noise, especially children. It is truly wonderful to be home with your children but it is important to have a professional atmosphere.
You may need to get creative with child care. I have a teenager come in the afternoons to take my kids to the park. I also schedule as many talk hours as I can during naptimes and bedtimes, since my children are very young.
I also think it is important to teach your children not to interrupt when you are on the phone. Mine understand that when the headset is on, Mommy is working and not to be interrupted. They have been known to wait patiently for me to get off my call. I keep an old phone close to my desk for them to play with so they can feel connected to me.
These are some of my solutions. Your solutions will depend on your own children's ages and personalities. Please drop me an email at info@at-home-agent.com with your tips for childcare!
Taking Care of Home and Office
By far the two best resources I have found on the Internet for caring for the home is www.flylady.net and savingdinner.com.
There is nothing like knowing what's for dinner up to a week in advance, and knowing all the ingredients are there. Saving Dinner has been a huge blessing in my home. I hope it is in yours, too.
You will not lose control of your home if you have your routines in place. If you're like me, that can be quite a challenge. I am constantly getting sidetracked, and Flylady really helps keep me on track. Her service is free.
