Giving Thanks for Working at Home
November! The air is crisp, we're expecting our first snowfall, and everyone seems to be skipping Thanskgiving decorating this year in favor of Christmas. What does that mean to you if you're seeking a work at home position? Apply or follow up now! Christmas slots are filling up!
Make sure you have your planner all ready for the holidays. I find that mine is vital all year long, but more so during the busy holiday season. I ink in holiday parties and family obligations, and then plan my work time around them. If you don't have a planner, may I suggest FranklinCovey ? I have used their product for about 10 years now, and can't live without them. I use a weekly view, which gives me plenty of room to write in my shifts. I also use it as a personal journal, to record notes from meetings I attend from time to time, and basically to function as my "paper brain."
Getting enough rest is imperative. When you work at home, it can be hard to "leave work" since it is right there -- I just have to go upstairs and log on to the computer and I'm "at work!" It is OK to leave those emails screaming for help right in your email box if it is not convenient for you to work at this time. After all, you chose to work at home so YOU could control your schedule.
Did you take a day off this week? I try to always take my weekend off -- Saturday and Sunday. My husband works very long hours, so I tend to want to spend that time with him. Everyone needs time to renew their spirit and to have a day just to have fun with the family. If you observe Sunday as your sabbath, then Saturday and Sunday may be the time to use. If your sabbath falls on Saturday, then Friday and Saturday may be a better choice. Or, if you don't observe sabbath at all and are not a church goer, you might prefer to take your "weekend" on Wednesday and Thursday! At least the lines are shorter during the week if you go out skiing or to other recreation spots. Find out what works for you -- but make sure you take a weekend sometime.
I often hear from people who work at home that they work 7 days a week. I can't do that, and I don't know how they do, either. I need time to be able to be with my children without worrying about having to go to work.
Enjoy working at home this holiday season, and don't spend all your hard earned money on Christmas. There is a huge slowdown in January and February. How can you prepare for it? I welcome your suggestions at info@realworkathomesolutions.com.
Happy Thanksgiving!
