Avoiding Scams

Volumes have been written about individual scams that abound in the work at home world. Let me simply summarize the warnings here. Don't become a victim!

These warnings are compiled from the Better Business Bureau website.

  • If you must purchase something from the employer prior to starting work, beware. You should be able to purchase your working tools from any available outlet.

  • Beware of offers that do not include regular, salaried employment. You should know exactly what you will earn for each job you complete.

  • Avoid anything that promises huge profits and big part-time earnings.

  • Avoid offers that want you to pay them before they tell you what they're selling. You know the ones -- they claim to have the great secrets to working at home, and if you just send them $29.95 they'll tell you what they are.

  • Beware of offers that promise huge markets and high demand. Folks, the market just doesn't work that way. Besides, they're promising this to how many thousands of people?

  • Beware of work-at-home job sites that require a fee to access their database. Generally speaking, employers pay to place the ads. Jobseekers should not be required to pay to access the ads. Besides, that information is freely accessible on the Internet.

  • NEVER let anyone access your bank account!!! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. I don't even even use direct deposit, and would never allow an employer to direct deposit until I have developed a good relationship with the company. There are money-laundering and money-transfer schemes out there that can land you IN JAIL. Don't risk it. Click here for the MSNBC article.

  • Be suspicious of claims of inside information.

  • Also be suspicious of "no experience necessary" claims.

Details on specific scams will be added later, so please check back often. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If you have information on a scam you want to share, please email me at info@realworkathomesolutions.com with your story. I'd love to hear from you!
